Used in traditional Chinese medicine to soothe coughs and aid digestion, it was also prized in ancient Egypt—found among the treasures of Pharaohs—and cherished by nomadic warriors to quench their thirst on long journeys. Over the centuries, licorice became a symbol of both well-being and indulgence, valued in medieval monasteries for its restorative properties. In honor of this extraordinary root, we craft our Licorice Liqueur following an ancient monastic recipe, using a slow infusion of licorice roots in alcohol, enhanced by a syrup of water and sugar.
