The rhizomatous plant known as galanga, or galangal, is a member of the Zingiberaceae family, which also includes turmeric and ginger. Many Southeast Asian cuisines, especially Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, and Vietnamese dishes, use these kinds. It is renowned for having earthy, lemony, and piney undertones along with a hint of pepper.
